Minutes for the Town of Swepsonville: Town Council Meeting January 20th, 2015
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Raymond Herring.
The Town Council remembered the passing of Elizabeth Copland, Mac Payne, and Jean Pruitt. They were long time residents of the Town of Swepsonville.
All Council Members were present for the Town Meeting.
The minutes for the meeting December 16th, 2014 were reviewed. Hugh Doss made a motion to accept the minutes as written. Doug Scott seconded the motion. The minutes for the meeting December 16th, 2014 were unanimously approved.
Bobby Massey, the Towns’ CPA was on the agenda for tonight meeting; he called to reschedule to the February Town Meeting.
Bill West with 54 West on Hwy 54 came in to talk to the Town Coucil about being annex into the Town of Swepsonville. He is wanting to be annex in for the use of liquor by the drink that we have here in the Town of Swepsonville. He has beer and wine sells plus his business allows brown bagging. He thinks this will boost h
is sells up for his music business. They have bands that come from all over the place. The Town Council is going to discuss the annexation and will make a decision at the February Town Meeting.
Mayor Herring addressed the Town Council about the Ice Pigging project. This is a line cleaning that uses ice slush to clean the inside of the water lines. He explained that it would cost about $25,000 to clean 3,000 feet of pipes. The ice pigging would be done of the older lines which are located at Thompson Street thru to the Swepsonville Ball field, Old Dixie Court and Carolina Street. Doing this ice pigging will prolong the life of the life of the pipes. Darrell Newton made a motion to continue on with the ice pigging project. Hugh Doss seconded the motion. The vote passed unanimously. Mayor Herring and Angela, the Town Clerk will notify the residents at the houses that will be affected, that their water will be cut off at the street. Their water can’t be used because it will be contaminated.
Council Member Gail Miller addressed the Town Council about becoming a member of the North Carolina League of Municipalities. She said that she talked to them to see what our dues would be for a year, $3,000 and they will waive the first year. She stated, “That since our Town is growing she would like for the gentleman to come and explain to the Town what to the Town what they could do for the Town. Gail Miller made a motion to allow the gentleman from NCLM to come speak to the Town Council. Darrell Newton seconded the motion. The vote passed unanimously.

Hugh Doss made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Gail Miller seconded the motion. The meeting was unanimously adjourned.
